I have a new Webbdaddy account, now what?

First of all, congratulations with your Webbdaddy account! Before you can get started it's very important that you setup your account correctly. Start by editing your General settings. PLEASE NOTE: Alsmost all settings contain 'Language settings' as well. These settings must also be edited before you start creating your website. Next; choose your template. Once your've done this, you can finalize by editing all other settings depending on the plugins you subscribed for.

After you edited all the settings you are ready to create your web site. But furst Generate your website by clicking on the Generate website link in your settings (all your settings are now being generated) Preview your website and enjoy your Webbdaddy account.
  

Do I need specific knowledge in order to use Webbdaddy?

No! Webbdaddy has been created specifically to make website creation as easy as possible. Webbdaddy has been tested by people without or with very little knowledge of computers or programming. Should you still have questions regarding the Webbdaddy Control Panel, feel free to check out the help pages or contact the Webbdaddy support desk.

Do I need to install software in order to use Webbdaddy?

No! You can create, maintain and access your Webbdaddy account no matter where you are and what time it is. Just as long as you have an internet connection. The only thing you need to remember are your log in account details.

Why is Webbdaddy so inexpensive as opposed to many other web suppliers?

Because Webbdaddy believes 'EVERYBODY' deserves to have a website!

How much does a Webbdaddy account cost?

You have your very own Webbdaddy account starting from EUR 4,95 p.m. (excluding VAT). The fee is charged per year starting at the beginning of each year. You can end your Webbdaddy account whenever you want without notice and before the new year starts. There are no refunds.

Do I always get the latest updates and versions of Webbdaddy?

Yes, you ALWAYS get the latest Webbdaddy Control Panel updates. In some cases you may need to perform some actions yourself. In this case you will get notified by email along with easy updating instructions. Updating your account will assure you of an optimal website!

What do I have to do to have the latest Plug ins?

When we release new Plug ins, you will automatically get a notification containing the newest plug ins and pricing. You can decide weather you want a specific Plug in or not!

What is a Webbdaddy Control Panel? 

Webbdaddy uses a Control Panel. This is an interface that will help you to easily create your website in just minutes! The Control Panel contains all the tool you need to create pages, menus, news items and more. Every Webbdaddy account has the same Control Panel, this way it's easy to quickly recognize the Webbdaddy working method. However, depending on your type of subscription and plug ins options may vary. The Control Panel also helps you choose the type of template you desire. To log into your Webbdaddy account you need the log in details, these will be sent to you by email once you subscribed to Webbdaddy.

What is a Template?

A Template is another word for Web design. Basically it's the mold in which your pages, menus and other items are molded in. You can choose from many different professional templates. You can even switch from one template to another after or during the creation of your website.

Where are my Webbdaddy files and which Database is being used?

All the pages and settings are saved in the database at Webbdaddy. The generated pages, files and directories are saved on your server in the folder specified in your FTP Settings (default directory is "/wd").

As long as you make sure this directory is not the root directory or the "/wd" direcroty does not already exsist on your server; no files will be overwritten by Webbdaddy. All the Webbdaddy files are saved in the default "/wd" directory unless specified differently. Webbdaddy does NOT use the database on your server.

What is a 'Page type'?

When creating an item or setting up your Webbdaddy account, you can choose to set a page type. A page type sets the correct properties for a page that is being displayed on your website. Eg. you can shoose to use a page type that only shows your page content, or you can shoose a page type that also shows news items on that page. To view the page types you can use, check out your template settings.

You have a Webbdaddy account

If you have a Webbdaddy account, you can view your website by surfing to your domain: 
E.g. www.name-of-my-domain.nl

You can also check out your site by clicking on the 'My Site' icon on the upper right of Control Panel:

You don't have a Webbdaddy account

If you don't have a Webbdaddy account, you are probably using a DEMO license. You can check out the demo site by clicking on the 'My Site' icon on the upper right of Control Panel:

 General Settings

Please note: It's essential that you setup ALL the settings correclty BEFORE you start using your Webbdaddy account.

FTP settings

Enter your FTP settings. Please do this carefully since entering the wrong FTP details will cause website creation problems. When you save your settings you will automaticaaly see if your FTP server is CONNCTED or NOT CONNECTED.

General Settings

Default logo - Type the location of your logo and use it though out your website. You can also use the 'Browse' function to find the on line location of your logo. 

Logo OnClick event- Decide weather you want the logo to have an OnClick event. You can choose from the following options: Nothing, Add to Favorites, Link to Home page. Is a internet surfer clicks on your logo, this action will be performed.

Language- choose the default language upon creation of a page, news item, etc.

Language related settings

Page type

To edit language related settings, you need to click on the desired language on the left of the screen. In these fields you can edit settings such as the use of a personal or Text2Flash banner and other settings. Please note: the Text2Flash field only work when you are using Text2Flash banners.

Language settings

Translate all your labels. These labels are used by Webbdaddy in your web site. A label such as 'Next' can be translated with 'Next page', or '>>' or 'Continue', etc. If you wish to use the same labels like suggested, just copy the label names in the fields. 

Other Settings

Once you created your contact page, you can enter it's URL here. A 'Contact' link will automatically appear in your website. This 'Contact' label can also be personalized and translated by you.

 News item Settings

Type - With this option you can decided what page type is used when news items are shown in your website. Page types vary depending on your template.

Items in list - This option sets the amount of items that are listen on 1 page once a internet user clicks on the 'Read more...' link. Once the maximum amount has been reached the 'Next' and 'Previous' buttons will activate.

Language related settings

Thumbnail - You can select a default thumbnail that will be used each time you create a news item. Naturally this default thumbnail will be overruled should you use a specific thumbnail upon creation of a news item.

 Users

Why are some users blocked in the User list?

If a user tries to log in more than 3 times using wrong log in details; this user will be blocked for a period of time. This user can retry after the blocking period has expired. In case the blocking period is not expired; this user can be unblocked by the Superuser or Administrator performing the following actions.

Why can't I chance the permissions of other users?

To change permissions of other users, you need to be a Superuser or Administrator.

Menu

 

Why are changes i made in my menu not directly visible in my website?

To avoid publishing a menu on your website which you are still working on, you need to publish the menu before the changes are visible on your website. To perform this action click 'Publish Menu' in your menu editing mode.

Can I change the order of my menu items?

Yes, you can change the order by selecting the item you wish to move and clicking ‘Move item'. Now you click anywhere in your menu to move this item. Please note that the items you are about to move will be placed BEFORE the destination item.

Can I link directly to a news item?

Sometimes it can be necessary to link directly to a news item. To link to an item follow these instructions:

  1. Click on the tab My Website > News items
  2. Click on 'Edit' related to the news item you want to link
  3. Click once on 'Direct link' found on the bottom of your screen 
    1. The link will be highlighted 
  4. Press Ctrl+C (this is the default Copy action)
    1. Your now have the 'direct link' of this item. Use this link anywhere in your pages, menu or other items by pressing CTRL+V (default Paste function).

Can I change the page filename?

Click the  ‘Edit’ icon of the page which file name you which to change. Click 'Properties' and change the fill name.  [meer uitleg]

How do I link a Page to my Menu?

1. Click My Website> Menu 
2. Click on the  ‘Edit’ icon of the Menu you wish to add a page to
3. Create the Menu item
   a. a pop up Will appear
4. In the 'Link' field use the  'Browse' button to link your page.
   b. a pop up appears. Choose Pages from the upper left drop down > Language/folder

What's the use of Meta Tags?

Meta tags will help you be found in internet search engines such as Google, Yahoo and others. a proper use of meta tags will help you get a high listing. For more information on Meta tags type  ‘Meta tags’ in your preferred search engine.

Why are only few of all my news items are published on the internet?

How many items are shown on your website depends on the template you chose. However you can list all your news items by clicking on the 'Read more' link on your website. You can also decide how many items you with to show on on page simultaneously. Read more about the 'Items in list' function

How can I change the order of my News items?

Change the order by changing the ‘Show on line from’ date and time. To change this field click on the 'Edit' icon of the desired news item.

 What does the Generate function do?

Generating your site is necessary when changing the settings of your website. While generating your website all your items will be recreated using the new settings you just edited. DO NOT end the 'Generate' process once it's been activated. Generating is a rather quick process however, in some cases it may take a while depending on the amount of information you have published. To regenerate your website click on the tab 'Settings' > 'General Settings' > 'Regenerate'

 How do Text2Flash banners work?

Every template has a set of Text2Flash banners. These banners are custom made and designed especially for the template you chose. Text2Flash banners give you the opportunity to have Flash banners that contain a text and picture of your choosing. You do not require any knowledge of Flash. Just type the text you r want in you banner and upload your favorite picture! You will find your Text2Flash banner in the Text2Flash folder of your FCKEditor.

Start your FCKeditor by clicking on the browse button in your banner settings. Selects the Text2Flash folder and customize your banner!
